In a significant operation, the Zone 16 Police Command in Bayelsa State has apprehended 10 individuals suspected of internet fraud, possession of charms, and involvement in diabolic ritual activities. The arrests were made in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following a covert operation based on intelligent information.
According to Ewhoborwo Emonena Gunn, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects were found with hard drugs and charms, and have confessed to various fraudulent activities.
“The police are committed to protecting the lives and property of residents in Bayelsa and Rivers states, and will arraign and prosecute the suspects once investigations are complete”.
However, the arrests have sparked a heated debate, with many people commenting on the incident. Some have argued that the police have no right to arrest someone simply because they are in possession of charms.
“What’s the crime in carrying charms?” asked one commenter. “Is it now a crime to practice one’s tradition?”
Others have thanked the police for taking action against suspected cybercriminals and ritualists.
“Thank you, police, for keeping our community safe,” said another commenter. “These people are a menace and need to be brought to justice.”
Ruth Kossiwa, the lone female suspect, claimed she was visiting her lover when she was arrested. Her story raises questions about the circumstances surrounding the arrests and the potential for innocent individuals to be caught up in the police’s efforts to tackle cybercrime.
Meanwhile, the police have also discovered a Beretta pistol and ammunition at Okaki Junction in Yenagoa, where armed bandits have been terrorizing people. The findings highlight the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for continued police efforts to protect residents.
The debate highlights the complexities of the issue, with some people supporting the police’s actions and others raising concerns about civil liberties. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen how the case will unfold.
