Governors’ Forum Set to Address Issues, Wike’s Boasts Empty – Umar Sani

In an exclusive interview, Umar Sani, former Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, shared his insights on the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Sani expressed optimism that the party’s governors’ forum will address the issues and ensure stability, dismissing Wike’s boasts as “empty threats.”

Sani during the interview attributed the party’s instability to the absence of a substantive national chairman, leading to divisions and power struggles. He commended the governors’ forum for taking a stand and urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to follow suit.

Regarding Wike’s claims of being the leader of the PDP in Rivers State, Sani emphasized that the party’s constitution recognizes the state governor as the leader. He welcomed the governors’ forum’s decision to intervene, assuring that they will correct the anomalies and prevent further crisis.

Sani downplayed Wike’s threats to cause a crisis in states supporting Fubara, labeling them as “empty boasts” without substance. He believed that security agencies should take such statements seriously, but in Nigeria’s context, they often go unaddressed.

The former adviser expressed confidence in the party’s ability to resolve its issues, citing the establishment of a disciplinary committee and the governors’ forum’s involvement. He assured that the party would not lose Simi Fubara to another party and that the crisis would be resolved swiftly.

It bears mentioning that Sani acknowledged criticisms of the party’s leadership but emphasized that the absence of a national chairman is the primary issue. He looked forward to the emergence of a competent chairman to drive the party forward.

When asked about Wike’s influence in the party, Sani noted that Wike’s strength comes from his ability to manipulate the system, but with the governors’ forum now taking a stand, his power will be curtailed. He also pointed out that Wike’s threats are a sign of defeat, as he knows he is losing control.

Sani praised the governors’ forum for their unity and determination to address the crisis, stating that their involvement will bring stability to the party. He also commended the disciplinary committee for taking action against Wike, saying it shows the party is serious about discipline.

It is worth noting that as the party navigates its challenges, those close to the matter insist the governors’ forum’s intervention and the disciplinary committee’s actions will be crucial in determining the PDP’s future. With the party’s leadership and governors united, Sani is visibly optimistic that the PDP will emerge stronger and more united than ever.
