Ogu/Bolo Council Chairman Awards Bursary to Over 400 Undergraduates

The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Evans Bipi, has awarded bursaries to over 400 undergraduates from the local government studying at various tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The beneficiaries, all indigenes of Ogu/Bolo, were selected from over 16 universities, polytechnics, and colleges of health sciences. This marks the first batch of students to benefit from the bursary scheme initiated by Bipi.

The bursary scheme, part of the caretaker chairman’s commitment to education development, is designed to promote academic excellence, ease the financial burden on parents and guardians, and reduce the dropout rate among indigent students of Ogu/Bolo LGA.

In his inaugural speech, Bipi highlighted his dedication to the welfare of the student community, emphasizing the importance of education and skills development in empowering young people to reach their full potential.

“The payment of these bursaries is not just a gesture, but a valuable investment in the future leaders of Ogu/Bolo LGA,” Bipi said. “It’s a deliberate step towards securing the future of our youth by alleviating the financial hardship faced by students in higher institutions.”

The bursary disbursement comes at a critical time when many families are struggling to cope with the economic challenges in the country. As school authorities grapple with maintaining educational standards, parents and guardians often find it difficult to sustain the education of their children.

Bipi’s intervention aims to provide much-needed relief to these families, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the academic progress of the students.

Christy Tamunobereton-ari, the Secretary of the Bursary Committee and former vice-chairman of the council, praised the caretaker chairman for his commitment to the students.

“This move shows that Chairman Bipi is attuned and sensitive to the plight of our student community,” she said, highlighting the importance of the bursary in supporting students during these challenging times.

Tamuno-Opubo Eretoru, the Special Assistant on Student Affairs to the caretaker chairman, described the bursary scheme as a timely safety net for the students and a testament to Bipi’s unwavering commitment to advancing education in the area.

Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude during the bursary verification exercise held at the council headquarters.

For many, it was the first time they had received financial support from the local government in their academic journey. They thanked Bipi for the initiative and promised to use the funds for their intended purpose.

The council has announced that the verification process for the second batch of bursary payments will begin soon, providing further relief to more undergraduates in Ogu/Bolo LGA.
