Ahead of the October 5 local government election in Rivers State, an Accord Party aspirant, Atemie Princewill has boasted that he will win the chairmanship in Asari-Toru LGA.
Atemie said he has all it takes to beat any contestant during his party’s primary as well as the general election, boasting that the overwhelming majority of the youths of his LGA are strongly behind him.
He told our correspondent that he had held several leadership positions in the state’s ruling party and served the party and his people selflessly.
He also assured the people of his LGA that their plights would be addressed with all sense of government commitment when he clinches power at the chairmanship level.
Reliable information has it that the political activities of the contesting parties in preparation for the LG election were shifted to a later week due to the demonstration of the #EndBadGovernance protesters which began on August 1.
There are also court judgments restraining INEC from releasing voter registers to RSIEC which is mandated by law to conduct the LG poll in the state.
It is also on record that the All Progressives Congress is not interested in participating in the election while the internal issues plaguing PDP might also affect its chances of taking part in the election.
For now, the 23 LGAs of the state are being run by caretaker committees that were appointed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to replace the immediate past council chairmen whose tenure elapsed in June 17.
