National Youth Service Corps has yet again welcomed a love story, and birthed a new family in Rivers State.
Two corps members, Oyeniyi Ifakunle from Oyo State and Ekiomado Osato from Edo State, began the journey of forever, in the early days of July 2024.
They had never met before, till they were both posted to Bolo Community in Rivers State, where they first met last year, on the 16th of September, 2023.
While speaking with a reporter from The Port City News (TPCN), Mr Ifakunle shared details on the union.
“I’m from Oyo State, while she is from Edo State. We met at my place of primary assignment, community secondary School, Bolo community, Ogu/Bolo Local Government, Rivers State,” he said.
When asked the reason why he decided to tie the knot, he said;
Though we met in September last year, her character and attitude towards me, depicted a good example of a wife and mother. I didn’t want to let her go after her NYSC. Such a personality should be married to.
The feedback from family members was icing on the cake. When asked what the response from family and friends was on the good news, he said, “My mum was so happy about it. But my colleagues were shocked. They didn’t believe it at first. But they later confirmed it was true.”

The wedding was held at the Customary Court of Appeals, located after Woji Junction, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Those in attendance were both mothers of the couple, relatives of the bride, the Nysc Rivers State coordinator representative, pastors of Rhema Baptist Church, Port Harcourt, fellow Corps members, and some community leaders from the Bolo community.
Mr Ifakunle left a word of advice for his fellow NYSC members, who are still single.
“Seriously speaking, marriage is awesome, when you find who your heart fits in with. It’s amazing every day. My advice is that, once you see a glorious woman, don’t delay the move, because while you are delaying, another will see a glorious future in her, and what is yours will be taken and I pray no one takes what belongs to you.”
