The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has kicked off plans to repair sections of the East-West road in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, experiencing structural failure, specifically the point between Ula-Okobo and Ahoada.
The Niger Delta Development Commission Managing Director, Samuel Ogbuku, who inspected the ongoing repairs to the motorway between Ula-Okobo and Ahoada in Ahoada West Local Government area of Rivers state, solicited for Public cooperation with the contractors.
This comes on the back of the contractor reporting issues getting construction materials to the exact points experiencing structural failures and in need of repairs. Ogbuku stated the emergency repairs would restore the link between Rivers and Bayelsa states while collaborating with the Ministry of Works.
Webster Global Ventures, the construction firm handling the repairs for the NDDC gave on-site briefings to the NDDC Chief Executive Officer who was accompanied by other directors of the Commission. The Managing Director of Webster Global Ventures, Opeoluwa Adara, assured the NDDC that the company would hasten action on the repair work.
He regretted the actions of some of the motorists
Ogbuku apologized to motorists, especially heavy-duty drivers who had been unfortunately stuck at the bad spot for days on end. He acknowledged the deplorable state of the road and the need for urgent measures to restore it.
It bears mentioning that the Federal Ministry of Works had already started constructing huge culverts at the points of failure that were washed away during the massive flood in 2022.

The Number one Man at the commission assured that the organization would urgently fix the failed sections of the road to restore road links between Rivers and Bayelsa states.
He said “We were here a week ago and we saw it was impossible for any vehicle to ply between Bayelsa and Rivers States. After that visit, we promptly engaged a construction firm to urgently fix about 1.5 kilometres that were virtually unusable. Our inspection today has shown that we need to work on more sections of the road.”
Malam Sani Ahmed, one of the truck drivers stuck at Okobo lamented that he had not been able to move his vehicle for over seven days.
He beckoned on the Federal Government and the NDDC to come to their aid by fixing the road, stating that they were at the mercy of criminals who were taking advantage of their situation.
