The House of Representatives has announced the passing of Honourable Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi, popularly known as Jagaban, who represented the Ibadan North Federal Constituency in Oyo State. Akinremi, a two-term member of the House, died on Wednesday at the age of 51 after a brief illness.
The news of Akinremi’s death was confirmed by a close associate, Akin Adewale, who expressed his sorrow on his X account, stating, “We lost Hon. Musiliu Olaide Akinremi representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the NASS. This is really sad. Ah, God.”
House spokesman and Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr., also confirmed the news in a statement quoting Speaker Tajudeen Abbas. The statement highlighted Akinremi’s dedication as a public servant and his contributions to the House.
“Until his demise, the Oyo legislator was a dedicated public servant known for his unwavering commitment to the development of his constituency and the country at large.
“His passion for service, coupled with his deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of his people, earned him the endearing title of ‘Jagaban,’” the statement read.
Throughout his tenure, Akinremi was a staunch advocate for policies and initiatives that promoted social welfare, economic growth, and scientific research.
His contributions to legislative debates and his active participation in committee activities were a testament to his dedication and hard work.
Akinremi served as Chairman of the House Committee on Science Research Institutions, where he was recognized for his leadership.
Described as both a grassroots politician and an astute statesman, Akinremi leveraged his goodwill and network of relationships to attract positive impacts for his constituency.
He was known for building friendships and fostering unity within the House by reaching out and sending goodwill messages to colleagues on special occasions.
As a ranking member, Akinremi had a keen institutional memory and was a mentor to many first-time parliamentarians, guiding them with wisdom gained from his extensive experience in legislative affairs.
Speaker Abbas expressed profound sadness over the loss, stating, “Rep. Akinremi Olaide Adewale was a beacon of dedication and service. His contributions to our legislative work, especially in the area of science and research, were invaluable.
“His passing is a great loss to the House, his constituency, and the nation. We will miss his leadership, wisdom, and the unique passion he brought to his work.”
