A 45-year-old man, identified as Udohika, is currently under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a two-year-old girl on Gada Street, Ogbunabali, Port Harcourt.
According to a source, the suspect who is an electronic technician shares a store with someone in the street and allegedly lures the 2-year-old girl whenever his fellow shop occupant goes out.
Our Correspondent gathered that the father of the little girl became aware when she started complaining of pains in her vagina as he was bathing her.
Upon interrogation, the little girl demonstrated to her father that the suspect allegedly use to touch and rob her vagina in his shop when nobody is around. The child also took her father to identify the shop which is located at the front of their compound.
We further learned that the father of the girl who lost his wife during the birth of the two-year-old child made a formal complaint at Old GRA, Police Division and personnel of the Division effected the arrest of the suspect last week Friday, 5 July, 2024.
Reacting to the incident, a human rights advocate and National Coordinator, of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, called on the Rivers State Police Command to carry out an unbiased investigation on the matter.
“The Police should carry out a thorough and unbiased investigation to ascertain the veracity of the claims made by the father of the child as information available suggests the suspect denied the allegation against him.
“If the suspect is found culpable in the course of an investigation, he should be made to face the law”.
The Rivers State Command Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed the arrest of the suspect.
She disclosed that the suspect had been transferred to State CIID, Port Harcourt for discreet investigation.
