Eno Omokri has publicly criticized former Anambra governor Peter Obi for urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Kanu, who faces charges related to treason, is detained at a Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja.
Omokri, however, argues that by supporting Kanu’s release, Obi and his supporters, known as “Obidients,” have revealed their sympathies towards the secessionist group IPOB. Omokri suggests this stance jeopardizes Obi’s future political aspirations. He emphasizes IPOB’s alleged involvement in attacks on security personnel in the South East, attributing these actions to directives from Kanu before his arrest.
Peter Obi, who ran as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, called on the Federal Government to release Kanu, citing an existing court-granted bail. Obi made this appeal to journalists in Onitsha on Saturday, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
In a post on his X handle, Omokri stated, “By calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu today, Peter Obi finally exposed himself and his Obidients and where their allegiance lie. Don’t worry, Peter. Nigerians heard you in Ibadan, Kano, Maiduguri, Port Harcourt, Sokoto and Abeokuta.
“You, who have never for once spoken up for the over one hundred officers and men of our military and paramilitary forces killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, are now calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who made public broadcasts calling for his supporters to kill military, police, and paramilitary men.
“What did Jeremiah 13:23 say again? Can a leopard change its spots?”
In another post accompanied by an image of Obi in front of a Hero beer logo, Omokri remarked,
“The ‘Release Nnamdi Kanu Now’ statement by Peter Obi is the obituary of Peter Obi’s Presidential ambition.
“By calling for the release of a man who made public broadcasts asking his supporters to kill Nigerian military and paramilitary forces wherever they find them and has neither apologized nor repented of that order, Peter Obi just showed his allegiance to the flag behind him in this photo and which he used for his Hero beer logo!”
