An advocacy nongovernmental organization best known as the Defence For Human Rights And Democracy (DHRD) has urged President Bola Tinubu to call the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to order.

A statement dated June 27 and signed by the Chairman of DHRD, Clifford Solomon, said Wike is responsible for the destructive politics in the state, urging the FCT minister to refrain.

The statement said: “The Defence For Human Rights And Democracy (DHRD), is extremely disturbed by the destructive politics that is currently going on in Rivers State without recourse.

“Elections were conducted since early 2023, the winners had been sworn in, all legal battles had been won and lost and real democratic governance has commenced.
But, Rivers State is still in the heat of political crisis.

“DHRD, in strongest terms condemns the destructive politics which the state is experiencing to the extent of bringing in bombs (Improvised Explosive Devices IEDs) to bomb certain places in the state during protest to paint the state as a “No-Go-Area” in a bid to bring to reality their call for a State of Emergency which they want the FG to declare on the state, yet the state is peaceful. in reality.

“We therefore, vehemently call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja Nyesom Wike, to refrain from his destructive politics and allow absolute peace to reign in Rivers State.

“We task the Rivers State police command headed by CP Olatunji Disu, to stop being bias as the CP is currently being perceived but to be professional in the discharge of his duties, hence we will be left with no choice other than to call for his removal.

“We are in a constitutional democracy and not a Banana Democratic Republic.”
