Man detained for alleged repeated defilement of stepdaughter

By Tina Amanda

The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt, has detained a man in his early 50s, identified as Obinna, over allegations of repeatedly defiling his thirteen-year-old stepdaughter.

A source close to the family who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the suspect, a resident of the Igwuruta community of the Ikwerre local government area, allegedly started defiling his stepdaughter when she was six years old after her mother separated from her ex-husband and took her to live with Obinna after marriage.

The source revealed that the suspect, Obinna allegedly used a Dane gun belonging to him to threaten the girl, that he would shoot and kill her if she told anyone her ordeal in his hand.

According to the report, the victim became tired of the alleged repeated defilement and on May 2024, confided her ordeal to an elder relative who does not reside with them, which led to the arrest of Obinna last week Friday 14 June 2024, by Police Detectives and taken to SCIID, Port Harcourt.

The source further disclosed that medical examination conducted on the minor in two different hospitals showed she had been defiled and bruises were also indicated in her private part.

The Rivers State Police Command is yet to speak officially on the matter as at press time.
