Turmoil as Angry Youths Break down Wike’s statue

Angry youths in Rivers State have pulled down the statue of the former governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike.

The enraged young people also brought down posters and signs featuring Wike and the former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Bar George Ariolu. In a video posted on a social platform while the protest was on, three youths were seen struggling to drag the statue down.

However, some more of the protesters who trooped into the secretariat joined the force and pulled the effigy from its base, stating that the minister was no longer needed there. The situation in Rivers State where protesting youths pulled down the effigy of the former governor, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, seems to have stirred strong emotions.

The act of taking down billboards and banners with Wike’s image and that of the outgone Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Bar George Ariolu, indicates a significant display of discontent within the Obio/Akpor LGA in Port Harcourt. The video circulating online showing the youths’ efforts to topple the statue, followed by more protesters joining in, highlights the intensity of the protest.

It’s evident that the protesters felt strongly about their message that the minister is no longer welcome in that capacity. Such events often reflect the power of public sentiment and the impact it can have on political figures. The unity and determination shown by the protesters in expressing their views demonstrate the importance of civic engagement and the right to peacefully voice concerns.
