BREAKING: Life lost during Youth clash in Port Harcourt, multiple gunshots fired

One person has reportedly died and several others were hurt in a fight at the Port Harcourt Local Government Secretariat in Rivers State.

On Tuesday morning, some young people went into the secretariat building, but the police tried to prevent them with firearms. This happened after Governor Siminalayi Fubara told the leaders of the local governments to take charge of the 23 council areas. The young people, who were supporting the Governor, were met with force by the police, and gunshots were fired. The young people were not armed and were upset at the police for using force.

This fight started because of a court decision recognizing a three-man House of Assembly, which annulled the tenure extension granted by the 27-member Assembly loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike, But they didn’t want to leave, so the Governor promptly declared their tenure finished on June 17.

On Monday, something similar happened in Degema and Asari-Toru when young people took over the secretariats and asked the leaders to leave.

Youths of the south-south state were quick to take to X to express their dissatisfaction with the former governor whom most believe is behind the violence and unrest.

“Wike boys are shooting at us but we’re not going to fold,” said @excellentAI.

Some saw this incident as an indication of what the future holds across Nigeria if youths decide to take back their country

It bears mentioning that this showdown is the latest in a series of pissing contests or show of force between current governor Sim Fubara and ex-governor Nyesom Wike.
