Rivers United outshines Shooting Stars

Port Harcourt-based side, Rivers United outshined shooting stars of Ibadan, this took place in a matchday 35 fixture of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) in Portharcourt. Rivers United Edged Shooting Stars by a lone goal

The first half of the fixture was eventful but  it was deemed goalless by both sides. The first half was highly contested, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Skipper Nyima Nwagua, “Ironman” Andy Okpe, and Abba Suleiman came close for the home side while 3SC goalkeeper Okeimute Odah made crucial saves. At the other end, Abiodun Akande also made brilliant saves as the first half ended goalless.

Earlier on in the second half it was captain fantastic who came to the rescue, Nyima Nwagua was the hero, scoring what will be the winning goal in the 51st minute, tapping in a cross from Kazie Enyinnaya after a clever one two with Mark Gibson Theo.

The match was held on like that until the last minute, which resulted in the home side Rivers United securing 3 points. With this victory, Rivers United moved up to 8th place in the Nigeria Premier Football League table, with 50 points from 35 matches.

“We were determined to get the three points today. I salute my players’ courage and congratulate my team for putting up a great show to secure the win.” – Coach Evans Ogenyi said delightfully.

Up next for the Pride of Rivers is a trip to visit Bendel Insurance on Wednesday, June 12, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in a matchday 36 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
