President Bola Tinubu appoints Heads of the National Council on Climate Change

President Bola Tinubu has taken significant steps towards realizing Nigeria’s green industrial vision by appointing Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe as the Director-General/CEO of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC). Dr. Maduekwe, with extensive experience in climate policy development, including serving as the National Coordinator for the Climate Parliament in Nigeria, is tasked with leading the country’s efforts in climate action and renewable energy transition.

Additionally, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Shelleng, appointed as Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance and Stakeholder Engagement, will handle related matters at the NCCC Secretariat. Mr. Shelleng, with a background in finance and previous experience as Business Development Director at the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company PLC, will also serve as Secretary of the Intergovernmental Committee for the National Carbon Market Activation Plan (NCMAP).

Furthermore, Mr. Olamide Fagbuji, appointed as Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology and Operations, will lead digitization and process optimization initiatives at the NCCC Secretariat. Mr. Fagbuji, a political analyst and computer scientist, brings valuable expertise from his previous roles in economic affairs and technical advisory positions.

These appointments, effective immediately, reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to green industry development and climate action for sustainable growth and national prosperity. The President expects the appointees to leverage their expertise and discipline in advancing Nigeria’s environmental agenda and increasing investor confidence in climate change initiatives.
