In a surprising move, President Bola Tinubu has shed light on why he picked Nyesom Wike, a member of the opposition, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Tinubu said this decision was aimed at changing the way leadership works in Nigeria.
He explained that instead of focusing on political ties, it’s crucial to choose leaders based on their skills and abilities not through political affiliations. Tinubu made these comments in Abuja during the opening of the extended roads, now called the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Expressway.
Even though Wike belongs to a different political party, Tinubu praised his appointment as one of the best in Nigeria’s democratic history. He commended Wike’s dedication to his role as FCT Minister, highlighting his achievements despite facing criticism.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of recognizing the efforts of Wike and his team, as well as other stakeholders and private sector partners involved in the project.
“As we celebrate this achievement, it is important once again to acknowledge the efforts of the FCT minister, Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and his team, all stakeholders involved, including the private sector’
He described Wike as a remarkable figure, acknowledging his impact on leadership in Nigeria. Tinubu said that whether people like or dislike Wike, they cannot deny his influence. He noted how Wike has shifted the focus from political alliances to effective leadership.
Initially, there were objections to Wike’s appointment, but Tinubu believes that those who opposed it are now recognizing his contributions. He praised Wike as an exemplary leader who sets a good example for others to follow.
Tinubu also mentioned Wike’s dynamic personality, noting his passion and energy. Although Wike has brought low his public appearances, he continues to excel in his role as FCT Minister.
