Sobomabo Jackrich revealed how Asari fathered, mentored him

By Mark Lenu

One of the 2023 governorship candidates in Rivers State, Ambassador Sobomabo Jackrich has revealed how he was fathered and mentored by the Edi- Abali of Kalabari Kingdom, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari.

While paying tributes to Alhaji Asari who celebrated his 60th birthday anniversary at the weekend, Jackrich said he was frequently beaten by Alhaji Asari because the birthday celebrant had wanted him to be a great person.

A full speech of Sobomabo Jackrich’s tribute was quoted as saying that: “It is with profound respect that I pay this tribute to my father and mentor (Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari). He introduced me to the Niger Delta struggle with an unwavering spirit, boldness and heart that knew no fear.

“His leadership has been the cornerstone of my journey and through his tutelage, I have attained the recognition I hold today.

“His courage and unyielding determination had set the standard for all of us who grew under his guidance.

“The turbulence along the way was inevitable, yet your mastery of the struggle provided a beacon of hope and resilience despite all the challenges.

“Whatever I and many of us have become in the struggle is by your guidance that we have been noticing.

“We have no regret for the path you paved for us. Today, we stand as leaders in our own ranks,, thriving and leading with the principles you imparted in us. All thanks to your leadership.

“Your integrity remains the hallmark of our lives. Under the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, many more groups emerged including the Niger Delta People’s Liberation Force. This is because you gave a level field for everyone under your leadership to grow and your exemplary lifestyle continues to guide us.

“I can’t summarise without saying that the peace we enjoy today in the Kalabari region of the state is owed to your undying patrotic sacrifice to protect your people from social vices.

“My dear father, again I want to let the world know that I am Egberi papa because you said I should be Egberi papa. Not because I am your biological son but because I grew up under your watch. I served you and lived with you.

“I was one of the persons that was frequently beaten by this father of mine. When he was beating me, I was thinking he never loved me but I now know that when a father beats a particular son more, it means that he wants the son to be better than him. God bless you for attaining this height in life.”
