The ongoing WAEC examination will not be affected by the nationwide strike by the Labor Party, says the Divisional Supervisor (Ekiti) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mrs. T.A.Y. Lawson confirmed that the nationwide strike, which begins on Monday, will not hinder investigations across the country.
This confirmation was conveyed in a letter addressed to principals and school owners in Ekiti State titled “Notice of Commencement of Strike by NLC and TUC”, reference number EK/BC/SC/EXAM/07/Vol.1. /89, late Friday night.
The letter reads: “The attention of the board has been drawn to the announcement by the NLC and TUC of an indefinite strike with effect from Monday 3 June 2024.
“It will be officially announced that WASSCE SC 2024 will happen as planned.
He noted that although the examining body sympathizes with the concerns of the unions, it is vital that students do not suffer because of the ongoing examinations in Nigeria and other West African states.
“As we share the general concern of trade unions and Nigerians, WASSCE SC continues in WAEC member states and no Nigerian child should be disadvantaged for missing the examination.
“For the above reason, WAEC does the examination and school principals, supervisors, parents and the general public should attend their candidates in the examination and make suitable arrangements for them.
“Please drive accordingly,” it concluded..
