Labour Unions In NiMet Suspend Planned Strike

Labour Unions in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have  suspended the planned strike action scheduled to begin on Monday, 20th May, 2024.

The planned strike by Nigerian Meteorological Department unions has been called off. This was revealed on Sunday on their official Twitter account. Civil Aviation Unions, including Civil Aviation Workers of Nigeria, Civil Aviation Professionals Union of Nigeria and Association of State Enterprises, Technical and Casual Workers, have informed staff of the Meteorological Agency of Nigeria of their intention to continue the strike on Monday, the 20 an of May 2024.

The strike is planned because the administration has not addressed the delays of 45 months of minimum wage and the resulting employee adjustments. Responding to this, the Director of Human Resources of NiMet Nasiru Sani said, “The unpaid 42 months salary adjustment by the Federal Government was before the present management of NiMet”. He further added: “As a responsible administration that cares about the welfare of its employees, we are nevertheless working with the unions and regularly updating them on the contracts with government agencies to help pay for the delay.”

At NiMet’s meeting with the unions, the agency said, “The Nigerian Meteorological Service Unions have called off the planned strike which was scheduled to begin on Monday, May 20, 2024.
