In a recent aviation mishap, an aircraft belonging to the premium services provider, Xejet Airlines, encountered a runway excursion at Lagos Airport, plunging into the grassy area adjacent to the runway. The aircraft involved was an Embraer 145, carrying a total of 52 passengers and crew members. Departing from Abuja Airport, the flight met with an unfortunate incident upon its arrival at Lagos Airport.
Sources at the airport have indicated that Runway 18L has been temporarily closed to aircraft traffic following the incident. The Aerodrome Fire and Safety Rescue Unit of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) swiftly mobilized to the scene to initiate passenger rescue operations.
Xejet Airlines, renowned for its business class-only service, operates primarily from Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS). The incident, which occurred around 11:29 am local time, saw fire and rescue personnel promptly assisting in the evacuation of passengers from the affected aircraft.
Speaking on the matter, an anonymous source stated, “Another aircraft belonging to Xejet Airlines has skidded off the runway at the Lagos Airport. The incident occurred about 11:29 am, as the plane veered into the grass verge by B5. Fire and Rescue personnel are on the ground to help in the evacuation of the passengers. At the moment Runway 18L is closed to traffic.”
