The Alabo Edi-Abali of Kalabari Kingdom, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari has urged the government of Nigeria to invest in coastal roads, adding that such investment would create wealth and opportunities for the coastal region.
Alhaji Asari who also doubles as the Niger Delta freedom fighter said a lot of countries within and outside the African continent had used the creation of coastal roads to advance their economic and tourism fortunes.
He noted that Nigeria is still lagging behind for not investing in coastal roads, saying that the non-creation of coastal roads has brought a disservice to the people of the coastal region.
Alhaji Asari’s words: “Coastal roads in Nigeria are long overdue. It is one of the disservices done against the people of the coastal areas.
“Once you leave Nigeria and enter Seme border, you will journey from the coast of Seme border to Mauritania via coastal roads.
“All other countries have their coastal areas developed. It is only in Nigeria that coastal development terminates in Lagos State.
“Every country values its coastal asset but Nigeria is a very complicated and mysterious country.
“We are in total support of these coastal roads to come to a realization. I think every well-meaning person will support such roads because of the enormous wealth they will bring and the opportunities they will unlock for Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and other states.”
