Son Arrested for Brutally Murdering Mother in Akwa Ibom

In a tragic incident that has left the community in shock, a 70-year-old woman named Mma-Offiong James Peter was brutally murdered by her own son, Inyangake James Peter, in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to reports from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the suspect was apprehended on April 4, 2024, around 9:00 am following the heinous act. In his chilling confession, the suspect claimed that he was compelled to commit the crime by a voice that repeatedly urged him to “kill her.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, confirmed the arrest and stated that Inyangake James Peter, aged 40, has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation.

Expressing their commitment to ensuring justice, the police assured the public that upon the conclusion of their inquiry, the suspect would be prosecuted for the horrific murder of his mother. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the need for support systems within communities to prevent such tragedies.
