The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA Rivers State, has condemned the high rate of wives assaulting their husbands in the state.
Chairperson of FIDA, Adata Bio-Briggs, in an interview with our Correspondent, expressed concern over the incident following two recent cases recorded in the State.
According to Bio-Briggs, violence is not the best option for anyone to resort to in any slightest provocation.
“We are not happy about the development. Violence is not something that should be meted out to anybody, no matter the provocation, so we encourage the prosecutors to ensure that justice is done.
“Surprisingly it is not the first time, second, or third time we are hearing such news. At our center, we receive complaints from men also, so it is not as if it is new we are hearing that women are doing this.
“I was not happy about the incident but there is nothing you can do in that situation, we just have to tell people, and spread the message more that violence is not the best resort when there is provocation.”
She however advised that the best thing to do when one is in an angry state is to walk away instead of allowing oneself commit murder or result the act of assault of pouring someone harmful substance.
On Friday, 13 October, 2023, the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Kokio confirmed the arrest of one Mrs. Favour Nwokoro over attempted murder.
