One of the survivors of the recent oil explosion and owner of a bunkering camp in ibaa community in Rivers State John Bodo has claimed responsibility for the death of his son.

Bodo’s son, Uche was among the victims of the recent explosion that rocked the community.

Narrating how he caused his son’s death, Bodo said he introduced the deceased into illegal bunkering and regretted indulging himself in bunkering activities.

“I was so stupid to have involved my son. He doesn’t deserve to die. I take full responsibility and I blame myself. I now feel my life is gone. It is still like a dream to my family as a whole. Everyone knew how industrious Uche was. The world is crumbling on me as I speak.

“It all happened in the twinkling of an eye. Everyone tried to run for their lives as no one thought of the next person by his or her side. Everyone was in limbo,” he said.

Recall that about 35 persons were reportedly dead and many others injured following an explosion that occurred at an illegal oil refining site in Ibaa Community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, the paramount ruler of the community, Eze-Nwaobodo Johan has lamented severally over the continuation of bunkering activities in his domain, despite repeated warnings issued by him.

He added that “I even sent town crier to my community several times to announce the ban on illegal bunkering in Ibaa.

“I became an enemy to some persons for condemning bunkering but i don’t care because i know the danger that is involved. Today, they have seen it and I think it will be a very big lesson to all our sons and daughters as those that are dead can not come back again.”
