Police creating more enemies for us – OSPAC

By Brave Dickson

The ONELGA security outfit, OSPAC has said the police in the LGA are creating more enemies for them by quickly releasing any notorious criminal arrested by OSPAC.

Following the incessant killing of innocent lives by the late Don Waney and his gang, the legislative assembly of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of Rivers State established OSPAC to curb the spate of killing and other forms of criminality in the area.

Lamenting the actions of the police to our correspondent, the Secretary-General of OSPAC, Gift Ohia said, “when we arrest hard core criminals and hand them over to the police, the police will release them back into the area within 48hrs without thorough investigation and prosecution.

“When that happens, the criminals will see us as their arch-enemies and view the police as their friends, thereby preventing us from keeping these criminals far from our land.

“Criminals will be on the trail of the police for months and will not be arrested. Once we go after the criminals and arrest them in less than 24hrs, the police will come and demand that we hand over the suspects to them.

“As if that was not enough, the police in our area now specialise in selling any seized item we hand over to them. The police do not want to know if the exibit can serve as evidence in court, so long as the item has monetary value, the police will sell it.

“The police are not being fair to us and they are not cooperating with us to combat crime in ONELGA. Rather, the actions of the police are encouraging criminals to freely live and commit crimes in our area.”
