Gunmen abduct business woman in Port Harcourt

By Tina Amanda

Suspected Kidnappers have abducted a businesswoman, Mrs Onyi Ugba, at about 6:40 pm on Friday, 7 July 2023, at Okija Street, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.

According to a source, the gunmen, who were about five in number and heavily armed, stormed the Superstore of Mrs Ugba located at Umuoji junction, Okija street, and demanded she hand over all the money from her sales for the day.

The source said the gunmen got infuriated when the woman could not provide enough money, which made the criminals change their plan from robbery to abducting her.

Our Correspondent gathered that people scampered for safety as the gunmen shot sporadically while whisking Mrs Ugba away.

Report says Officers of Mile 1 Diobu, Police Station, arrived some minutes after the hoodlums left with their victim.

The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident to our Correspondent.

SP Koko said efforts are in top gear by the Police to rescue the victim unhurt and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

In December 2022, suspected armed robbers robbed Mrs Ugba of a huge amount of money, running into millions, when they stormed her Superstore at the same Okija street.

The incident was reported to Mile 1 Police Division, and the suspects have yet to be arrested before the Friday incident.
