Pensioners to Fubara: Don’t treat us as Wike did

By Brave Dickson

Pensioners in Rivers State have urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara not to treat them and civil servants the way his predecessor, Nyesom Wike did.

The pensioners who described the incumbent governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu as members of the civil service constituency, expressed hopes that the governor will fulfill his inaugural promise to pensioners and civil servants.

An executive member of the state pensioners, Sam Eke told our correspondent that Wike accumulated pension arrears to a degree not good.

“We have very high hopes that there will be complete departure of what his predecessor (Wike) left behind concerning pensioners in the state.

“So, we are very optimistic that he (Fubara) will do the needful to increase the allocation that the immediate past governor was releasing monthly to cater for both death benefits, monthly pensions and gratuities.

“We have no doubt that governor Fubara will live up to expectation by doing what he promised in his inaugural speech for civil servants and pensioners in the state.

“The former administration allows the monthly pension arrears to accumulate to an extent it became a burden to pay,” he said.
