Vigilance group arrests cable vandal in Port Harcourt

One Godiya Yakubu has been arrested by members of a Vigilance group in the early hours of 26 Friday, May 2023, while trying to vandalise a street light cable at Iwofe axis Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt.

Speaking to our Correspondent, Chief Security Officer in charge of Calabar quarters at Iwofe, Richman Jogwe, said the suspect, Godiya Yakubu, was apprehended in the act. At the same time, two others with him ran away.

“Early this morning, we arrested Godiya Yakubu, who hails from Benue state. He and two others went to cut the cables connected to the Government street lights at Iwofe Road; two escaped and we could arrest Yakubu.

“We have handed the suspect over to Rumupakani Ada George, Police Division, for proper investigation.”

The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, has yet to respond.

Two weeks ago, the Borokiri Police Division arrested three young men, Belema Aggo, Michael Edet and George Itarikabo, for vandalising street lights provided for the community by NDDC.

The suspects and exhibits, which include eight solar panels, eight heavy-duty batteries and two street lights, recovered were taken into Police custody.

At the same time, the Spokesperson of the command, SP Koko, said an investigation is ongoing to apprehend other gang members and receivers of previously stolen items.
