A group under the aegis Movement for the Development of Oyigbo Ethnic Nationality has appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike to instruct Lubrik Construction Company (LCC) Limited to speed up work on Afam Road construction to enable him to commission it before May 29, 2023.
President of the group, Victor Opute, who appealed in an interview with our Correspondent, expressed concern that the Afam Road construction, which was flagged off on December 2021, and the completion date given for December 2022, is not yet completed for commissioning.
He emphasized that the timeline for the completion of the road construction has elapsed, stressing that if LCC does not expedite action, the Afam road may not be ready before Governor Wike leaves office.
“This is May, and if the Afam Road is not concluded by May 29, 2023, the Governor’s tenure will elapse, so Oyigbo people are appealing that the Governor should instruct LCC to fix the road so he would Commission it before he leaves”.
Opute further appeals to the incoming Governor-elect of Rivers State to include Oyigbo internal urban roads in his work template, as they are in a terrible, deplorable condition, making people move out of the local government daily.
“We are using this medium also to remind the incoming Governor-elect of Rivers State that the internal Roads of Oyigbo urban area are in terrible condition. There is a severe road infrastructure deficit which is de-marketing the LGA, and it has become a nightmare for residents of the area.
“We therefore appeal that the local government and state government should fix the internal roads within the Oyigbo urban area to at least encourage businesses to come into Oyigbo and stir up development”.
