Rivers State governor-elect, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has implored Muslims in the state to use the period of their Eid El-Fitr celebration to pray for peace in Rivers particularly and in the Nigerian nation at large.
According to him, peace is necessary in every society across the world since without it, no meaningful development can be achieved.
The Rivers governor-elect stated this in his felicitation message to the Muslim community in Rivers State and across the country as they celebrate this year’s Eid El-Fitr.
In a statement from his media office on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital, Sir Siminalayi Fubara described this year’s Eid El-Fitr celebration as unique given that the nation is now preparing for another period of a smooth transition from one civilian government to another.
He charged the Muslim faithful to uphold the tenets of Islam and the obligations of Ramadan while praying for peace in the nation to manage the processes that will lead to a successful transition and the deepening of democratic values in the country.
“As we celebrate this Eid El-Fitr to mark the end of Ramadan and commencement of Shawaal, I urge you to pray for the peace of our beloved nation as we inch towards another period of handover.
“It is important that as the nation is transitioning from one civilian government to another, we must all play our role to deepen democratic values to move our nation forward,” he stated.
Sir Fubara commended the Muslim community in Rivers State for their massive support that culminated in giving him a tremendous victory at the polls.
He assured them that the interest of all people will be covered by his administration.
