The last matchday of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership between former Champions, Rivers Angels and Delta Queens played inside the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Wednesday ended 1-1.
The Okowa Girls, as Delta Queens are known, drew the first blood in the 17th minute through Favour Damaris from close range.
Adaobi Okah however equalized for Rivers Angels in the 58th minute through a freekick delivery from Ifeoma Polinus after the Delta defense failed to clear their lines.
Both teams headed into Wednesday’s tie already qualified for the season-ending Super 6 tournament but needed to wrap things up on a good note.
Rivers Angels goalkeeper, Charlotte Adjei made crucial saves to keep her side in the game as it then ended in a draw.
Goalscorer for the Jewel Of Rivers, Okah was full of excitement for the point gotten in Asaba and equally heaped praises on her teammate, Adjei for being the heroine of the day.
“I am quite happy with the draw we got because after they drew in our home, they promised to beat us in Asaba and said we don’t have a good team and that our qualification was simply down to luck so we had to come here to prove to them and the entire world that we worked hard to get the Super 6 ticket.
“Our goalkeeper did an amazing job today, I was really overwhelmed by her performance and the entire team is so proud of her today. The defenders also gave it their all and I’m so proud of the teamwork in today’s game.
Meanwhile, Rivers Angels will begin their 2023 Federation Cup campaign against Golden Sun of Bayelsa State in a yet-to-be-disclosed venue on April 26.
The eight-time Cup Champions pulled out of last season’s campaign but are now looking forward to reclaiming the title this time around
