Rivers NDLEA seizes N4million methamphetamine, convicts 17 drug offenders

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Rivers State has said it seized 4 million naira worth of methamphetamine and secured the conviction of 17 drug offenders within the first quarter of this year.

According to a statement signed by its Public Affairs Officer, Media, and Advocacy, DCN Emmanuel Ogbumgbada, the command also arrested both male and female drug suspects at various LGAs of the state.

It read in part, “On Thursday 6th April 2023, at about 5 pm, operatives of NDLEA Rivers State Command executed a raid at Odagwa, Etche and arrested one Angela Sunday ‘F’ in possession of 800gm of Methamphetamine, with a street value of four million naira (N4,000,000.00). She was also found with 250gms of Cannabis Sativa and 59gms of Heroin.

“Still on the same operational stride, one Juliet Eze ‘F’ was found with 47gms of Cannabis Sativa, 7gms of Methamphetamine, 3.5gms of Cocaine, and 3gms of Heroin, respectively.

“In a similar development, acting on a tasking order from the Agency’s Directorate of General Investigation (DOGI) as well as credible intelligence provided by a whistleblower, operatives of the Command in Ahoada executed another raid at Omoku, at about 9 am on Friday 7th April 2023, and arrested one Monday Lucky ‘M’ with 2.5gms of Methamphetamine and 1gm of Cannabis Sativa, respectively.

“While at about 10:30 am of Friday 7th April 2023, our operatives at Okrika Area Command of the State arrested one Johnson Baadee ‘M’ with 4.3kg of Cannabis Sativa at Ogale – Eleme.

“Meanwhile, in the month of March 2023, the Command arrested 23 drug peddlers such as seventeen (17) males and six (6) females with a total drug seizure of two hundred and eight point eight six four kgs (208.864 kgs) comprising cocaine, heroin, Cannabis Sativa, methamphetamine (aka Mkpurunmiri) and psychotropic substances.

“The command also secured the conviction of 17 drug defendants at the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt. They are all serving their jail terms at the Port Harcourt Correctional Service Centre.

“While wishing the good people of Rivers State a Happy Easter celebration, the NDLEA Rivers State Commander, Commander Ahmed Mamuda, is urging Rivers residents to come forward with information that will enable us to sanitize the society of illicit drug menace.”
