The Rivers State Government has begun the demolition of properties within the environs of the African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower Radio Station at Ozuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
This follows a 48-hour quit notice issued by the state government to Daar Communication Limited, the owners of AIT and Raypower media houses.
In the notice, the state government said the area had been mapped out for the development of GRA Phase 5 Ozuoba.
The land on which AIT and Raypower Radio Station built its transmission station has been a subject of dispute between the government and Daar Communication Plc.
As of last Friday, the state government had stationed bulldozers around the AIT/Raypower premises, demolishing the makeshift houses and shops around the area.
Recall that the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Rivers State Chapter had pleaded with the State Governor, Nyesom Wike to rescind the decision to demolish DAAR Communications Limited.
However, the building housing the media houses are yet to be demolished.
A statement jointly signed by the Chairperson Rivers State, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana, and the Secretary, Dr Ngozi Anosike, pleaded with the state government to explore other amicable options to resolve whatever issues and differences may be.
