Rivers 2023: 4 killed, 2 officers injured in Ahoada West

The Labour Party candidate for last Saturday’s Ahoada West Constituency election for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Boma Carson Agidah has said that no fewer than four persons were killed in the election.

In a telephone chat with our correspondent, the LP candidate also said two security agents sustained injuries from the violence that marred the election.

He said ballot boxes were snatched in wards 4, 5, 8, 11 and 12, adding that all the polling units were characterized by vote buying.

“There was no election in Ahoada West. What we witnessed in last Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections were killings, ballot box snatching and vote buying not election.

“PDP and APC were responsible for the vote inducement in all the polling units. We even have pictorial evidence. The phone of one of my agents was smashed by thugs because he was snapping the activities of vote buying at ward 3.

“Collation has not taken place at the INEC collation centre in Akinima. In fact, the collation centre was under siege by thugs since Saturday till Sunday. It took the efforts of the DSS to move the INEC Collation Officer and the EO out of the collation centre,” he said.

Agidah also accused the LG chairman, Hope Ikiriko of having a hand in the violence, saying that it was when the chairman arrived at the collation centre that the shootings began.
