BREAKING: INEC official suspends Rivers result collation over threats to life

The state collation officer for the presidential election (SCOPs) in Rivers State, Prof Charles Adias has suspended the collation of results over an alleged threat to his life.

Adias, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Otueke announced the adjournment while addressing journalists at the State Collation Centre in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Tuesday.

The INEC offical said the he would not proceed with the collation of results until the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state addressed some of the issues those threatening him raised including the faulty Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

“I have been receiving threats, messages and calls to my life and that of my family for two days now. My picture is all over the social media that I was sent to rig the elections in Rivers State.

“Every one hour, I receive more that one million calls of threats to my life and other things. I hereby stand down collation until the INEC and security agencies can guarantee my safety to continue this national assignment.” Prof. Adias stated.

A total of 21 local government areas have been collated so far while results are expected from two local government areas – Obio-Akpor and Degema.
