2023: Varsity Don blames political violence on Wike’s executive orders

An Associate Professor at the University of Port Harcourt, Dr Steve Wordu has joined in condemning the lingering politically motivated violence in Rivers State as he also blamed the state executive orders 21 and 22 of fueling the political unrest.

The university lecturer said the executive orders 21 and 22 issued by Governor Nyesom Wike are parts of the problems in the state because of the restraining effect of the executive orders on other political parties from freely campaigning in the state.

Wordu said, “the actions of the governor are also part of what is instigating political violence in the state, especially his executive orders.

“Today, the governor will give approval for the use of stadium and tomorrow he will withdraw the approval which is wrong and capable of causing political tension in the state.

“The security agents too have not done well in containing election violence in the state which means government has failed the people.

“The antagonistic politics in the state, where few politicians don’t want others to test political offices is another problem causing election violence in the state.”

He therefore appealed to politicians to give peace a chance and warned against turning the state into a killing field as characterized in previous elections.
