The Civil Society Organizations in Rivers State says it will go ahead with its proposed protest over fuel scarcity on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 following the continued fuel scarcity in the state.
The Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations Enefaa Georgewill said the decision of the group to embark on the protest follows the inability of the Department of State Services to meet the Nigerian National Petroleum Limited NNPCL to address the scarcity of PMS in the state.
The new move also follows the expiration of the two-week ultimatum given to the NNPCL and the DSS to resolve all issues leading to the scarcity of petroleum products in the state.
Enefaa Georgewill further said that the protest has become necessary following the sufferings and economic hardship faced by rivers people due to the fuel scarcity in the State.
He also called on all their affiliates to come out in their numbers next Wednesday for the protest.
“Despite assurance from the Department of State Services DSS to the Civil Society Organization in Rivers State that they will liaise with NNPC Limited to resolve the fuel scarcity in the state, the reality is they have failed in this regard.”
“In fact, the situation has become worst, as of the time they called for a peace meeting between civil society, we’re buying fuel for N320, the reality today is that we’re buying fuel between N450-N500.
“As a result of the above and the expiration of our two-week ultimatum, Rivers State Civil Society Organization hereby calls all our affiliates, trade union allies, students, drivers union, professional bodies, and rivers residents to prepare for the mother of all protest that will resume on Wednesday 15th of February 2023. Freedom cometh by struggle,” he said.
