February 4: INEC to conduct mock accreditation exercise across six LGAs in Rivers

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State has announced that it will conduct mock accreditation exercise on February 4 in six selected LGAs in the state.

The selected LGAs are drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state which comprise, Gokana and Opobo/Nkoro LGAs for Rivers South-East Senatorial District; Asari-Toru and Bonny LGAs for Rivers West Senatorial District as well as Ikwerre and Obio/Akpor LGAs for Rivers East Senatorial District.

The selected wards for the exercise are:
1) Bera and B-dere in Gokana LGA.
2) Ozuoba/Ogbogoro and Choba in Obio/Akpor LGA.
3) isiokpo 1 and Igwuruta in Ikwerre LGA.
4) Dappaye Ama-kiri 1 and Queens Town Kalama in Opobo/Nkoro LGA.
5) Buguma South and Isia Group 1 in Asari-Toru LGA.
6) Finima and Oro-Igwe in Bonny LGA, respectively.

A statement signed by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner through the HOD, Voter Education and Publicity, Mark Usulor said “INEC shall conduct a mock accreditation exercise to further test the functionality of the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices ahead of the 2023 general elections in the state.

“The exercise shall hold on Saturday, February 4, 2023 between the hours of 8.30am and 2.30pm in two polling units each in six (6) selected Local Government Areas (2 LGAs each drawn from the 3 Senatorial Districts) namely:
Rivers East for Ikwerre & Obio/Akpor LGAs.
Rivers South-East for Gokana & Opobo/Nkoro LGAs and
Rivers West for Asari-Toru & Bonny LGAs.

“We therefore enjoin all registered voters in the selected polling units, political parties, civil society organisations (CSOs), the media and the general public to come out en – masse to participate/observe the exercise in the above mentioned LGAs.

“INEC is committed to conduct free, fair, credible and safe 2023 general elections.”
