The youths of the three Kalabari-speaking LGAs under the auspices of the IYC Kalabari Se-Ikpangi have expressed their anger over recent attacks on their kinsman, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, who is the 2023 guber candidate of Accord Party in Rivers State.
Dumo was said to have been attacked by some assailants on Saturday at Igbo-Etche in Etche Local Government Area of the state.
The state Accord Party governorship candidate who spoke on the incident said the attackers opened fire on his convoy, adding that his bullet-proof car was riddled with bullets.
While strongly condemning the attacks on Dumo, Edward Asikitams, Chairman of IYC Kalabari Se-Ikpangi, told our correspondent that such attacks should not be repeated on any Kalabari son or daughter.
“We will not tolerate any attack on any illustrious son or daughter of Kalabari, and we are using this medium to warm Rivers youths to shun vices and embrace cooperation.
“Etche and Kalabari have enjoyed a historical relationship in business as established by our forefathers, which they used in building this state.
“It is time for all youths to come together in a synergetic manner that is void of sentiments and elect credible leaders in the various political positions that will govern our state and country very well.
“In the same way we have allowed all candidates to freely come to Kalabari land and campaign, we also expect other ethnic nationalities in the state to allow candidates from our own extraction to freely campaign on their ethnic soils,” he said.
Asikitams also urged all candidates of Kalabari extraction in the forthcoming elections to work with IYC and other Ijaw organisations, adding that IYC is apolitical whose right is to promote the Ijaw cause.
