Two armed robbery suspects killed in Delta

The Delta State Police Command says it has killed a notorious armed robbery suspect who has been on its wanted list over his involvement in a foiled robbery operation in Orogun community, Ughelli North Area of the state.

The Police said the deceased, 26-year-old Bobo Ononibe, was killed following a proactive move to forestall another attack.

Confirming the story to newsmen in Asaba, yesterday, Police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, said on January 13, at about 1645hrs, the deceased was seen with other members of his gang, who gathered within the Unukpo – Orogun palm tree plantation.

He said the DPO of Orogun division in following a tip-off, mobilised and led police operatives to the area.

According to him, “As they were approaching the scene, the hoodlums opened fire on the Police and the police equally responded, but the hoodlums took to flight due to the superior police firepower of the Police during the ensuing gun duel.

“The gang leader, one Bobo Ononibe ‘m’, of Ufuoma Street, Unukpo – Orogun community, Ughelli, sustained serious gunshot injuries, but was taken to the hospital where he was later certified dead by the doctor on duty.”

Edafe said one locally made cut-to-size gun, three cartridges, one machete, one dagger, and charms, among other items, were recovered during the raid.

He also noted that efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.

The Police spokesperson also confirmed the killing of another armed robber suspect, who he said was beaten by members of Ewherhe community Agbarho in Ughelli town on Monday at about 1125 hours.

He said the Police at Agbarho Division received a distress call that some members of Ewherhe community caught a suspected armed robber along ewherhe/ovu road with one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun and one live cartridge, and was also found with suspected stolen items including one iPhone 11 pro-max, one HP laptop, one mp3 player among others.

According to Edafe, the suspect was a victim of mob action, hence the DPO detailed patrol teams to proceed to the scene, but when they got there, the mob escaped leaving the suspect badly wounded.

He stated that although the suspect was rescued and taken to the hospital, he died while receiving treatment.
