Rivers Angels were on Wednesday held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Delta Queens in Match Day 6 encounter of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership played at the University of Port Harcourt Sports Complex.
The former NWFL Champions came into the game with the intent of securing all three points but were denied by the resolute group leaders.
Delta Queens dominated the first 45 minutes but Rivers Angels stepped up their play in the second half but were unable to get the much-desired win.
Goalkeeper of the visitors, Anderline Ngbechi pulled off a great save in the 86th minute with her legs to prevent a shot from substitute Chiamaka Okwuchukwu from finding the back of the net.
Both teams were reduced to ten players each in the 87th minute as Blessing Okpe (Rivers Angels) and Joy Michael (Delta Queens) were shown straight red cards for their altercation by the center referee.
Head Coach of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon after the game said Wednesday’s result was not a good one for his team.
“Today’s result is as though we have lost because we are not supposed to be dropping points in our home. We should rather pick all points and go away to pick draws or wins. The result is very bad.
“After the first fifteen minutes, we lost concentration, the visitors took over the game. My players weren’t fighting and also played to the gallery.
“All hope is not lost for us, Super 6 is still certain and we’ll fortify the team for the second round. This is football, our chances are still good going forward,” he said.
Rivers Angels’ next game is a trip to Warri to face Royal Queens on January 18, 2023.
