2022: Rivers NDLEA arrests 312 suspects, convicts 119, seizes 2.332 tonnes of hard drugs

The Rivers State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it arrested 312 suspects in the year 2022.

The command also said it secured the conviction of 119 drug offenders and seized 2.332 tonnes of hard drugs.

A statement made available to our correspondent through the command’s Spokesman, Emmanuel Ogbumgbada said, “from January to December 2022, NDLEA Rivers State Command arrested 312 suspects

“The suspects comprised 256 males and 56 females with hard drugs weighing 2,332kg (2.332 tonnes), such as cocaine, heroin, Cannabis Sativa, methamphetamine (aka Mkpurunmiri), tramadol, Diazapam, and other psychotropic substances.

“The command also secured the conviction of 119 drug offenders and have 115 pending cases at the Federal High court, Port Harcourt.

“The convicts are serving various jail terms at the Correctional Service Centre, Port Harcourt.

“The Command also successfully rehabilitated 40 drug dependent persons in her makeshift rehabilitation centre, and also conducted anti-drug abuse campaign to various schools, communities, NGOs, religious groups, traditional kingdoms and corporate organisations in Rivers State.

“The State Commander, Ahmed Mamuda, while expressing appreciation to the people of Rivers state for collaborating with NDLEA in the fight against drug abuse in 2022, further advised Rivers people to continue to partner with the agency in 2023 so that together we can stamp out drug menace from our society.”
