Gunmen abduct woman in Rivers community

Tina Amanda

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a woman at Road 10 junction, Akwaka phase 2, Rumuodomaya, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Monday, December 12, 2022, at about 8 p.m.

In an interview with our correspondent, an eyewitness and shop owner who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the gunmen intercepted the woman at Road 10 junction, and dragged her out of her vehicle as they shot sporadically, causing residents and other passersby to scamper for safety.

She said the woman’s vehicle, which was abandoned by the gunmen, had been removed at the time she later opened for business. She could not ascertain if it was the Police that removed the kidnapped victim’s vehicle.

The suspected kidnapping comes just a few days after Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Effiong Okon, gave criminal elements ten days to surrender their firearms.

The spokeswoman for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to get back to our correspondent when contacted but had yet to do so as of press time.
