President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled the redesigned naira notes for the highest denominations of the currency including N1000, N500, and N200.
The president performed the unvieling ceremony at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa Abuja on Wednesday.
Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had announced the deadline for the circulation of the notes currently in use for January 31, 2023.
CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, while announcing the shifting of the date on Tuesday at a media briefing to mark the end of the 288th Monetary Policy Committee meeting and the last in 2022, urged those in possession of the old notes to hurriedly deposit them at the nearest bank branch.
On the redesigned notes, Emefiele said the development was a deliberate step by the government to check corruption and counterfeiting of the naira.
