Navy burns boat with 273 drums of petrol in Cross River, arrests 6

The Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Victory, Calabar, has set ablaze a seized wooden boat laden with 273 drums of petrol along the Calabar waterways and arrested six suspects.

It said the suspects and illegal products were intercepted en route Agbani oil terminal.

Speaking with journalists in Calabar, the base operation officer of NNS Victory, Lt. Cdr. Isaac Ayogu, said the exercise was in accordance with the directives of the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor.

According to him, the standard procedure of the Nigerian Navy is that any item arrested associated with crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering should be destroyed and suspects, if any, handed over to the appropriate prosecuting agency.

“On the 29th of October 2022, we intercepted a wooden boat carrying six suspects and about 273 drums of PMS along Agbani Oil Terminal, Calabar general area.

“The exercise we conducted this evening is in accordance with the standard procedure of the Nigerian Navy as directed by the Chief of Defence Staff that any item arrested that is associated with crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering should be destroyed and suspects, if any, handed over to appropriate prosecuting agency,” he stated.
