Supporters of the Social Democratic Party candidate for the 2023 governorship election in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe have hailed the court judgment which nullified the APC primaries in the state.
Justice Emmanuel A. Obile of a federal high court in Port Harcourt had in his judgment nullified all the primaries conducted by APC in the state over unlawful exclusion of some members of the party as delegates to the primaries.
One George Orlu and four others who claimed to have purchased nomination forms had approached the court requesting that the primaries of the APC in the state be nullified following their alleged exclusion in the process.
The court, in its decision, ruled that the claimants were unlawfully excluded from the primaries.
While the state APC had rejected the judgment in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, the supporters of Abe had described the judgment as well deserved.
A Pro Abe group under the auspices of the Rivers Voice of Freedom said the APC primaries deserved nullity, maintaining that the process was characterized by pranks and illegalities.
The President-General of the group, Dominic Dumekpigi told our correspondent that “the decision of the court to nullify the APC primaries didn’t come to them as a surprise because the primaries were not conducted in accordance with extant laws.
“The nullification of the primaries by the court shows that the leadership of APC in the state is not ready to do the right thing.
The leaders of APC in the state only care about how to manipulate processes in order to smuggle in their anointed candidates through the back doors, not minding the legal consequences.
Meanwhile, the state APC had vowed to challenge the judgment, warning that any attempt to make the state APC not to be in the 2023 ballot as it happened in 2019 will fail.
