As Nigerians mark the second anniversary of the EndSARS campaign, a Civil Rights Advocate and the National Coordinator of Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, has called on security agencies to fully comply with the Anti-torture Act 2017 signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In remembrance of the day, Wiro demanded an end to all forms of Police brutality, torture, extra judicial killing, illegal arrest, protracted detention of citizens as well as residents without trial.
According to him, it is regrettable that two years after the EndSARS protest, some security personnels and security institutions have not learnt any lesson from the incident as they still indulge in things that triggered the EndSARS protest which is against the Anti-torture Act 2017.
“As we remember those that paid the supreme price in the quest to stop oppression of Nigerians by state actors and security agencies in particular, we demand an end to all forms of inhumane treatment and brutality melted out against all citizens of the country.
“We also use the occasion of the second EndSARS anniversary to call on the Government at all levels and security agencies to follow due process in the course of their duty and shun any act that will constitute disregard to rule of law and impunity which may lead to re-occurence or replica of EndSARS protest,” Wiro stated.
