CSO knocks Wike for donating Rivers money to wives of Lagos State politicians

Brave Dickson

The Civil Society Organisation in Rivers State has condemned the funds donated by Governor Nyesom Wike to wives of Lagos State politicians, adding that the money is believed to have come from the state coffers.

The civil rights group said any individual is at liberty to spend personal money the way he or she likes, but when it comes to public funds, it has to be well appropriated.

The Chairman of CSO in the state, Ene-faa Georgewill told our correspondent that the whopping sum of money Wike keeps donating to other states is believed to be public funds because Wike had spent major part of his adult life in public offices and his salaries cannot equate the hundreds of millions he donates to others states.

Despite other whopping sums between N200million to N500million which the governor had been donating in other states such as Benue, Sokoto and the federal capital territory, Abuja among others, Wike recently donated N300million to wives of Lagos State Government’s officials during the 22nd National Women’s Conference in Lagos.

Georgewill said: “Wike should be made to explain to Rivers people the source of the huge sums of money he had been freely given to other states.

“Most worrisome is the N300million he gave to politicians’ wives when his own state is suffering from unemployment and other desasters.

“Go to bus-stops and Bet Naija centres, you will see a army of unemployed youths who are jobless and the state government is doing nothing to meaningfully engage them.

Flood had taken over parts of the state with complaints that the relief materials resulting from the money the governor gave out are not sufficient enough to provide meal, medication and shelter for the flood victims.

“If the state House of Assembly members know what they are doing, then they should call the governor to order and make him account for the state money he has been donating to other states.”

The state CSO also reminded Wike that the practice of charity should begin at home not abroad as the governor is practicing it.
