A pro-Atiku group has assured Governor Nyesom Wike that no amount of his plot to fail the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election will work.
The group said this following Wike’s open refusal to support the 2023 presidential ambition of Atiku.
Recall that after Wike lost the May 29 PDP presidential primary to Atiku and subsequently did not clinch the ticket to be Atiku’s running mate, the governor has insisted that until the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu resigns, he will not support the party’s presidential race.
Consequently, the governor and his allies had boycotted the party’s presidential campaign inauguration in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital.
This was after he (Wike) had earlier declined to be enlisted into the party’s presidential campaign list.
The governor had also held several meetings with the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and Tinubu’s allies within and outside the country on issues bordering on the forthcoming election.
The latest which has made the group to break its silence was the recent announcement of national honours award to be conferred on Wike by President, Muhammadu Buhari at this time the PDP is struggling to resolve its crisis with the governor.
Speaking with our correspondent, the South-South leader of the Atiku’s Support Group, Sam Ateke described the Rivers State governor’s actions as a plot to fail Atiku, adding that such plot will not work.
He also said that what Wike is doing is an act of paying back Tinubu, the favour which the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate gave him in 2019.
Ateke said Wike has lost track of who Atiku is in politics, boasting that even if Wike refuses to support Atiku, the PDP presidential candidate will still win the 2023 election.
