Alleged Rape: Court adjourns hearing on case against Rivers University Professor

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Thursday, adjourned the case of alleged unlawful sexual abuse by Professor David Ogbonna of the Rivers State University on a female student, for continuation of hearing.

At the resumed sitting, the Principal Witness (PW1) who is the victim told the court how the Defendant had locked his office door when she refused his offer to be his girlfriend and pushed her down to a couche and forcefully raped her.

PW1 also narrated to the court that she informed her mother after the Professor raped her, and she instructed her not to take her bath until she goes for medical examination at a health facility.

After the testimony of the PW1, State Counsel G.U Ammanah, pleaded with the court for him to tender some exhibits that was not ready at the sitting.

The presiding Magistrate, Chief Magistrate Poromon Menenen subsequently adjourned the case to 24 and 27 October, 2022, for continuation of hearing.

Recall that Professor David Ogbonna had pleaded not guilty on the charges against on the first day of his arraignment in court.
